Great Expectations!

Great Expectations!
For the most part, we like to recognize and emphasize the GREAT things that our students do. However, we think it's helpful to have a clear understanding of class expectations and what happens when those expectations are not met.

Our Whatcom Pillars
These pillars represent our shared values for a positive learning community at Whatcom Middle School. They are the foundation of everything we do on our own, in a group, or as a school. When these pillars are strong, our community is strong.

Positive Consequences (when guidelines are followed):

  1. A fun, positive classroom.
  2. Great phone calls and notes home.
  3. Class free time earned.

Negative Consequences (when guidelines are ignored):

  • If there is a recurring problem
    Step 1: A student-teacher conference
  • If the problem continues
Step 2: A letter or email home that needs to be signed by parent(s)
  • If the problem continues
Step 3: Time owed in-class or after school.
  • If the problem still continues
Step 4: Time owed after school
IMPORTANT! The following behaviors will result in immediate consequences:

  1. Unacceptable language.
  2. Non-compliance with an adult request.
  3. Aggressive behavior (punching, hitting, fighting, verbal bullying, etc.).

The above behaviors are serious enough that, depending on previous behavior, they could result in no warning. Instead, there may be time owed or an immediate office referral.

We will spend many hours in our classrooms together. Let's work to make them places we can all enjoy!
